My SIL was only two when her mother passed away and doesn't remember anything - I think I have only ever seen one photo of her mother and she has no siblings to help her remember - where as it seems you have something to remember her by and having a collage is such a wonderful idea. Plus it is very cool to see you in the various stages of your life, Susie!

It was my First Communion dress - 2nd grade.
I like the top right corner. Center: my mother's wedding, next: my wedding, then college graduation, high school graduation and my mother very pregnant with me.
Bottom left: my brother's size 15 shoes. I was holding a basketball in the original photo, but copy/pasted the heart from my drawing.

Good question. I will never know. She died suddenly when I was five.
I know that sounds kinda dramatic...but that's because it was.

I made this collage several years ago. The idea was that I wanted my mother to be with me for some of the important days of my life.

In first grade we were asked to make a drawing for our mom in honor of Mother's Day...
As you can see from the drawing in the center, I have been expressing my feelings through drawings,...

Susie, it's so cool that you spent your early years with your extended family so close by. And all of them with artistic talent, and discipline (building a house!) and adventuresome spirit.

How did your Mom feel about living with so much of your Dad's family?

You know, I was referring to an autobiography more as a metaphor for your interesting collection of stories.

Now I am thinking this may be a book; something blending the yogic principles and artistry and how it came together for you.

Your history, the beautiful images, the people, and your present commitment to an enlightened lifestyle...........just a thought.

My uncle (who also lived upstairs with my grandfather) was an avid (award-winning) photographer.
I was the youngest kid in the family and while my sister and brothers were off at school or playing with friends, I often got stuck being his model.

Susie,

Your sharings have offered such a deeply insightful look at your life that I feel like I have read your autobiography; in a few chapter and pictures. Growing up in the house your grandfather built when he was first married - and in which he passed away, it is a magnificent tale.

I have been sharing your stories and art with my wife Rita.

It has been a lot of fun sharing this "little corner" of MIS with all of you.

I am not around here as much as I used to be (pre-Yuku) but when I checked in just now I was tickled to see this thread! I have begun listening to WNYC's evening music lately and their blogs are pretty thought provoking. (as an artist I also like the visuals!)
I really began listening during the "Whatcha Doin'" blog phase so I have a soft spot in my heart for that point in time . But the father's day blog is a favorite as it caused me to stop and think. Dad. I still...

Yes, he lived upstairs from us in the house he built when he was first married. He died when I was 5 at the age of 94.
He told my aunt he was tired after breakfast, went back to bed and fell asleep forever.

I remember having oatmeal and "coffee" with him in the morning. (mostly milk and sugar)
Also, he grew grapes in our backyard and made red wine out of them.
He would let me taste the wine by inserting a little rubber tube into the keg.
It would flow...

This week I was listening to a series on national Public Radio about "Father's" - of course because Father's Day is this weekend.

For most of them, Dad was already gone to the Great Beyond. And it was really moving to hear adults reminisce about some of the nice things they remembered about their fathers.

The people on NPR were sharing their memories with the world. So, here I am offering up yet another -probably tangential to MIS - idea
