I know this has been mentioned before, but what exactly is the Tibetan Heart Yoga that Geshe Michael Roach teaches? How is it practiced? I gather that it's a combination of asana and tonglen, but that probably oversimplifies it. Someone was asking about it on the Ashtanga board.
Thanks! |

GMR has a small book out, The Tibetan Book of Yoga that can be found in Barnes and noble which explains the practice... Chris practices this... from my experience it takes a great deal of focus while doing asana...not just dristi, but sending out love, with the breath, to someone specific...it is a definite shift...instead of going inward it is an outward practice...i have trouble doing more than one thing at a time so that practice kind of fell away, however, i am open to receiving this practice again... lil |

how come all the cool stuff happens in Cali?
One of the teachers where I'm at is going to Thailand to work with elephants. She teaches Ivengar style and I really like that, but alas she is headed out for the summer. The last few classes we have been setting an intention to the practice (nice). I will miss her. She will be back in the fall. Send her some love yall via IM... |

i very much enjoyed meeting both Geshe MR and CM. there was, however, an awkward moment when i quite innocently and casually asked about their relationship.
this was right after they came out of the 3 year retreat...and this is the funny part, i didn't even have a clue about any monk/celibacy aspect. They did
this eye contact thing and then let me know that our conversation was over...
i read a lot of his teachings. i gradually stopped though because i didn't even want to enter into the debate of what their relationship is/was/wiil be...i was looking for pure teachings and not any additional controversy to wade thru to get to them. i know they do great work. Many are drawn to his teachings. lil

Tibetan Heart Yoga - CM and GMR | ||
|
Well now, that's what I'd call and alternative relationship!
Met them both at a teaching their students invited me to at a Jivamukiti yoga studio in Toronto. The students had given us a class at the hospice where I volunteered at the time. Had a warm connection with her (CM) when we spoke - mainly via our eyes - afterwards, I remember her laying her hand on mine...nice. Didn't speak to him for some reason. I remember saying I'd like to visit in Arizona, she said something like 'Please do'. ...maybe I will one day. All I've ever read by him is the Tibetan Heart Yoga book. I almost went to a week long teaching of THY in NYC a couple of years back but never made it. As I recall it was she who actually instructed us, he spoke before and after. He was funny. I got a good feeling off of them. I like the combination of Tonglen (Taking and Giving) along with asanas...also the meditation at the beginning was quite wonderful for me.
