I was officially diagnosed with bursitis of the shoulder and received a cortisone injection to decrease the inflammation so I can do the physical therapy to help it heal. Other wise i am headed for surgery. also have my arm in a sling for 3 days and need to ice it then start on my exercises on Friday. I had read about how painful the injection was, how it can elevate your blood sugar and blood pressure (two issues I deal with and have had under control for quite some time now ~ definitely didn't want to go back there for a few weeks or months while the cortisone is in my system.) I asked my physician if he had good injection technique, told him my concerns about my blood sugar and pressure. He was able to assuage my concerns so I took the injection, it was painless, but about 30 minutes after, so much emotional sludge arose that I was almost overwhelmed. I tried to just let it go through me, but didn't feel to be doing a very good job releasing. Amazing grace ~ this morning I feel like a new woman, so something positive did come of it. Also grateful that the injection was virtually painless I slept well last night that I have health insurance that I have a very competent orthopedist that today I can put this up as something I am thankful for, whereas yesterday I was in a total state of disequilibrium. I have a few questions if you don't mind. Was your bursitis related to trauma? Did you do physical therapy while on the cortisone. How long did the cortisone injection last and were you pain free after the injection and ever since? That the scenario I want to play out for me! There was no trauma involved that I remember, although I played a lot of tennis in those days. I simply woke up one day with an utterly useless left arm...it literally hung by my side, lifeless as can be....which meant I couldn't hook my bra, pull my pants up, yadda yadda. ACK! That was a Friday, and my husband was out of town. I laid low over the week-end and called a friend who worked for an orthopod, and she got me in pronto Monday morning. The doc administered the cortisone after looking at an x-ray, and BINGO! In less than 5 seconds, that left hand reached right up the middle of my back. The doc told me at the time that it could be a recurring problem for the rest of my life, or be all over and done with. Thankfully, it turned out to be Door # 2. I did no therapy, and so, I would have to say the injection did the trick right then and there. I will admit that the shot hurt like the dickens (that's an awfully long needle they use), and my arm was sore as can be that day. But that was it. The next day, it was normal. I would very sporadically (maybe 3 or 4 times) get little twinges of soreness off and on over the next 10 years, but only just that...little twinges that lasted barely at all. I suspect my youth had a lot to do with the healing process..... Hoping you feel much, much better today, Kathleen! Susan

My arm is still in the sling until tomorrow when I am to start my exercises. I certainly hope the cortisone is as effective for me. I ran into a neighbor today who had a similar experience; she had bursitis, one injection of cortisone, no physical therapy she is 84 now and hasn't had a problem since (which was a long time ago) ~ ~ We Radiate rainbows for the benefit of all humanity.

Also that the whole family sat and watched it in fascination with the hardships, laughter and sadness the volunteers share in the reserve project. Waking up to a cool morning and having the chance just to lay back for a while before getting up to start the day. The great eco-ball I bought which allows me to do the washing without using detergents or fabric softeners - and it really works!

Grateful for watching an old movie: "The Greatest Show on Earth" ( Jimmy Stewart, Charlton Heston ) and cried....and laughed...and cherished memories of being 20 something as a Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus performer - dancing on the Spanish web with 49 other ladies. elephant riding, chorus line dancing with giant sized headdresses and rich colorful costumes.. Grateful for making potato salad with lots of parsley.

We will snorkel again today, as we did Saturday. It is a wondrous thing to feel and see yourself surrounded by hundreds of little pinfish, or to suddenly watch a huge horse conch walking along with its orange foot...... http://en.wikipedia.org/w...Pleuroploca_gigantea.jpg . And it is always fun to see urchins, stone crabs, or starfish. The most awesome thing is to snorkel in the morning and see the way the light shines on the fish. I am a water baby!
