In the instant that you love someone
In the second that the hammer hits
Reality runs up your spine
And the pieces finally fit.

Whenever I listen to love songs on the radio or wherever I frequently associate the lyrics with Divine Love, or Love, not just romantic love. I think about my love for God and just all the love around me in everything. I heard this yesterday as I was driving to teach class and it really blew me away. I was thinking about the instant that you Love someone....when you actually see through the veil and know that you are seeing God expressed in your midst.
In the instant that you love someone In the second that the hammer hits Reality runs up your spine And the pieces finally fit. - Elton John, "The One" |

Carie~
I just found this thread...Elton's words are so perfect! The right words can make such a difference, in every part of our daily lives. It's so important to pause and reflect, breathe, connect, before we say anything, especially as teachers. I remember the exact powerful words that my favorite teachers said years and years ago. Some of them have moved out of this world, but their words are still so real to me. |

I want to live
I want to give I've been a miner for a heart of gold It's these expressions I never give That keep me searching for a heart of gold..... I've been to Hollywood I've been to Redwood I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold I've been in my mind,it's such a fine line That keeps me searching for a heart of gold....... I always have the sense with this song by Neil Young that it is his heart he is trying to find and whenever i hear it now i feel i've come a long way and travelled deep to find myself. Kind of goes with the poem Angela posted about caverns and personal archeology. David

It could have been just the guy looking for a girl,
not willing to give to receive, i always sensed it was deeper, about one's ability to share themselves to find the heart mind. Musical lyrics can have so many meanings, like poetry, sometimes they mean more to the reader than the writer. Neil Young was never one of my favorite musicians, but his lyrics always attracted me. "about one's ability to share themselves to find the heart mind."
That's what I was thinking too. Not willing to give to receive. Not being willing to be yourself fully, because when you are willing to be yourself you naturally relax into the Truth, the heart of gold. |

Into the Mystic
We were born before the wind Also younger than the sun And the bonnie boat was won That we sailed into the mystic Hark, now hear the sailors cry Smell the sea and feel the sky Oh, let your soul and spirit fly, into the mystic When that fog horn blows You know I will be comin' home When that fog horn blows I want to hear it I don't have to fear it I want to rock your gypsy soul Mama, just like way back in the days of old And together we will float, into the mystic Van Morrison |

Bruce Cockburn's lyrics have touched me to the core, time and again over the past 15 years. I can honestly attribute at least 80% of the opening of my mind to his influence - he is a gifted guitarist as well as a beautiful poet.
One of my favorites is: ***What About the Bond*** disharmony gives way to mute helplessness not enough communication too much not expressed it's all to easy to let go of hope to think there's nothing worth saving and let it all go up in smoke what about the the bond what about the mystical unity what about the bond sealed in the loving presence of the Father dysfunction of the institutions that should give a frame to work in got to find our own solutions confusion pressure from all sides got to head right down the centre in the love that will abide what about the bond man and woman made to be one flesh nobody said it would be easy but can we let go now and fail the test? now you could say life is full of moving on but do you want the pain that's already been spent to all be wasted -- c'mon what about the bond (from Humans, written in Ottawa, March 28th, 1980) |

Lightdancer,
I think it is very likely Elton, when he wrote The One, was speaking of a very pure, true, and therefor spiritual Love. Peace Bruce |

You've got to shake your fists at lightning now
You've got to roar like forest fire You've got to spread your light like blazes All across the sky They're going to aim the hoses on you Show 'em you won't expire Not till you burn up every passion Not even when you die Come on now You've got to try If you're feeling contempt Well then you tell it If you're tired of the silent night Jesus, well then you yell it Condemned to wires and hammers Strike every chord that you feel That broken trees And elephant ivories Conceal Joni Mitchell, from JUDGEMENT OF THE MOON AND STARS For the Roses |

From Left of Cool
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones so arjuna and krishna you know they're hanging out on the battlefield arjuna is like tired of war, he's trying to get out of this battle so krishna drops a little science on him, he says you know it's the way of spiritual growth a man must go forth from where he stands he cannot jump to the absolute, he must evolve toward it (can you hear that) krishna says at any given moment in time we are what we are arjuna we have to accept the consequences of being ourselves and only through this acceptance can we begin to evolve further we may select the battleground but we cannot avoid the battle so krishna tells arjuna it follows therefore that every action under certain circumstances and for certain people may actually be a stepping stone to spiritual growth arjuna is to do the best he knows in order to pass beyond that best to better how can we prescribe our neighbors to be perfect when it is so hard to know our own heart the pacifist must respect arjuna arjuna must respect the pacifist. both are going toward the same goal if they are really sincere there's an underlying solidarity between them which can be expressed each one follows without compromise the path upon which he finds himself for we can only help others to do their duty by doing what we ourselves believe to be right it is the one supremely social act. so kirshna's reply to arjuna occupies the rest of the story it deals not only with arjuna's immediate personal problem but the whole nature of action the meaning of life and the aims for which man must struggle here on earth at the end of the conversation arjuna has changed his mind he's ready to fight, he's ready to go ahead on it is the way of spiritual growth a man must go forward from where he stands he cannot jump to the absolute and the battle begins... hear a sample here ... www.amazon.com/exec/obido...ce&s=music |

Ripple
Lyrics: Robert Hunter Music: Jerry Garcia If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near, as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of man There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go, no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall, you fall alone If you should stand, then who's to guide you? If I knew the way, I would take you home |

A very strange enchanted boy They say he wandered very far very far Over land and sea A little shy and sad of eye But very wise was he And then one day A magic day he passed my way And while we spoke of many things Fools and kings This he said to me "The greatest thing you`ll ever learn Is just to love and be loved in return" |

Spiritual High (State of Independence) PART II
Chrissie Hynde (lyrics Anderson/music Vangelis) Sounds like a signal from you Bring me to meet your sound And I will bring you to my heart Love like a signal you call Touching my body my soul Bring to me, you to meet me here Home be the temple of your heart Home be the body of your love Just like Holy water to my lips Yes I do know how I survive Yes I do know why I'm alive To love and be with you Day by day by day by day Time, time again, it is said We will hear, we will see See it all-in his wisdom-hear His truth will abound the land This truth will abound the land This State of independence shall be This State of independence shall be Love like a signal you call Touching my body my soul Bring to me, you to meet me here Home be the temple of your heart Home be the body of your love Just like Holy water to my lips Hey Yes I do know how I survive Yes I do know why I'm alive To love and be with you Day by day by day by day Time, time again, it is said We will hear, we will see See it all-in his wisdom-hear His truth will abound the land This truth will abound the land This State of independence shall be This State of independence shall be This State of independence shall be His truth will abound the land |

Ah, I found it!
Ever hear a song on the radio, and it But you don't know what it is, who it is? Then, finally, you hear the DJ tell you... Tha's wha happened...I was DYING to know who this was, so I could iTune my way to my new favorite song lyrics... So Yoga. So. The tune is Always Love. The performers, Nada Surf (hmmm, sounding like yoga-ish still). The lyrics are (some make perfect Erich-sense, some a bit more mysterious, here ya go! ALWAYS LOVE To make a mountain of your life Is just a choice But I never learned enough To listen to the voice that told me Always love Hate will get you every time Always love Dont wait til the finish line Slow demands come 'round Squeeze the air and keep the rest out It helps to write it down Even when you then cross it out But Always Love Hate will get you every time Always LoveEven when you wanna fight Self-directed lives I want to know what itd be like to Aim so high above Any card that you've been dealt, you... Always Love Hate will get you every time Always Love Hate will get you I've been held back by something Yeah. You said to me quietly on the stairs, I've been held back by something Yeah. You said to me quietly on the stairs. You said Hey, you good ones. Hey, you good ones. To make a mountain of your life Is just a choice But I never learned enough To listen to the voice that told me... Always lovehate will get you every time Always lovehate will get you I've been held back by something Yeah, You said to me quietly on the stairs, I've been held back by something Yeah, You said to me quietly on the stairs You said.. Hey, you good ones Hey, you good ones Hey, you good ones I |
