Today is Guru Purnima and one of
the things it says at this link is
A Guru need not always be a person clad in saffron or white, it can be a book, an incident, a small child or any aspect in nature. Any person or incident that removes darkness and fills with light or Brahman realization is a Guru.Love & gratitude to Erichji, the MIS sangha, and all of my teachers.

Karen, thank you so much for the link, for pointing out an opportunity to remember and express love for all my teachers. I'm amazed that just two months
ago we were sitting in the cabin at Camp Allen.....I am forever changed.
I am grateful to all who have come before us. I am grateful to everyone here who encouraged me (whether you knew it or not) to join you, in this community whose beauty is beyond words. I am grateful to all the gurus, and especially those who dared to teach Westerners and women, this amazing art of yoga, of living. I am most grateful to our teacher, Erichji, for being, and for sharing, for loving us. No virtual cookies, he'll have to settle for cake .

Sooo grateful to be back in the pool swimming laps! YAY! Contrary to all the throngs of kids in the Y pool during the week, there were only a few other souls
in there with me today. Ahhhhhhhh.....peace and quiet. And plenty of room to do my exercises, laps, and floating savasana. Must have that! The experience is
never over until I say my gratitude poem while bobbing along, face to the sun. What a wonderful life!

I am grateful to have found another lovely surprise while snorkeling yesterday - a pipefish. We have had tons of sargassum floating in the past few weeks. When
I grew up in Miami, we would always shake it and all kinds of fun little creatures would fall out. I suggested that to Dan last week, and lo and behold, out
came some filefish and little crabs. Here is what a piepfish looks like...although ours was a much smaller and green guy....

Nice list, Veave....it sounds like you all are coping well with the loss.
I'm grateful for my hairdresser. Steve rocks! We always have so much fun during the appointment, and I just love the way he looks....bald, one African animal horn earring, chunky red and black specs, BIG smile. Plus he always finds something to compliment me on...love that, of course! |

Just cathcing up on this thread, feeling grateful for everything in general...
I really like what Karen wrote about Guru Purnima. Here's another nice take on the issue of "who is a guru".. This weekend, I felt a little conflicted about going to Amma, even though I think she is wonderful, because I have never really been attaracted to the whole "guru" thing. The friend that I went with , who is very much a devotee, kept saying things like, "Oh, maybe you will fall in love with her, and want to follow her to Boston, go to India, etc.", and my secret reaction was "whoah, I don't think so, I hope not!" Went I went up for my first darshan, though, what I got from her was this: "Oh, I know.. you already HAVE a teacher. I am your mother." Very cool . I also had the sense from her that to want her to be my guru would even be greedy.. why would I want another teacher when I already have what I need? That made perfect sense. Love and gratitude to Erichji, and to all of you.. ( hey, can you imagine what that parent-teacher conference would be like? Outstanding!!) |

you make me laugh Chaya...guru tuning in..isn't it special???...it is
truly tuning into that which resonates with your/my highest vibration...
My first teacher was Swami Satchidananda and I loved him immediately and sorta want to go live at the ashram and be more fully committed to the yoga lifestyle. And at the same time knew that wasn't exactly my truest path..it could have worked out fine....and then 25 years later, I sort of spontaneously decide to take a yoga teacher training in Santa Barbara, because it is nearby and I see Erich's picture and get a 'hit'......yeah! then I attend the training and it 'clicks!' ......he is my guru! He compliments Satchidanada's Integral Hatha Yoga teachings so lovely. Then I met him and oooohhhhhh YES! right on!! he is my guru, without
even thinking it out loud to myself, I just get it because the first night ..i need to do the 'homework'....gotta meditate..even if I have ants in my
pants....OMG..it worked...I slipped into the still space..and am SOOOOOOOO
GRATEFUL....I am listening and full of appreciation of my many different 'jobs'....like being an aerialist, elephant rider, chorus line dancer with Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus....which I am going to see tomorrow...gratitude!! plus gratitude..!!
