Those words did seem familiar, Susan.
Truth and kindness. These are unambiguous advices, though truth and kindness in action cannot be separated from defining circumstance, and it's the application of truth and kindness in situations that creates the shading, the points of view. For instance, one view says that imposing order upon the free expressions of a child leads to binding and inhibiting the mind of a child. Another view of the same situation says that since people live within the structure of society, then teaching a child to live by order and rules ... bedtime, mealtime, manners, and so on ... is an act of kindness for it teaches the child to move in harmony among other people.
That advice about "necessary," though. That's stickier. What words are actually necessary. Hmm.
