i used to sign off posts with the "song of the day," which was either what was on radio, or what was in my head, or what i heard in a passing car, etc. what's your song of the hour?

i mean, as long as we're tripping back to 80s movies, it could be (and as long as we're on a kenny loggins thing, or at least my internal record player is)

yeah, cake! in the climbing gym there's frequently a tape of Cake on, and there's a tune they have that goes something like:
"too much carbon dioxide, for me" and darlene, i'm So with you on dirty dancing! it was strange watching Footloose with an ex-dancer and current yogi, because we were both (having gone to a panel on Brokeback Mountain the day before) looking at how gender and movement get together, and how "real men do yoga" is cool now, and how in the 80s it got cool for guys to do that "feminine" dancing thing (and of course dancing isn't feminine by definition...billy elliot, anyone?) and then how the Brokeback guys are so, so very masculine when homosexuality in guys is usually considered a femme thing...we geeked out happily about that for a while  man, grad students should never watch movies anyway, yeah, dirty dancing....eeek! |

Ooooh, Marianne, I LOVE that song. The first time I heard it I had to stop the car - the percussion is fantastic. I heard the rest of the album wasn't so great, so I never got it. But, hmmm....there are downloads available now...
Theme from Rocky for me today. My friend let me borrow her mp3 player while running today. That song came on and I took off. Woohooo!! |
