Greeting to my fellow posters. . Well, I am a student. I am facing problem of
concentration for past 1 year. I cannot able to concentrate on my studies even for 10 minutes continuously. Consequently my educational performance is
degrading day by day. Anyone can give me some meditations/exercises, which can help me to let me concentrate for few minutes at least. Thanks in advance.
Waiting for your help ..........

Hello!
I will "think" on this, I know I will have a few other ideas, but the first thing that comes to mind is a pranayama, a breathing suggestion. When our left nostril is the stronger than the right (in breath), that is the time for performing mental activities (when the right is stronger, physical ones). If you are working with a yoga instructor, perhaps he/she could help you with a technique such as inhales left, exhales right, or a more advanced technique would include longer breath ratio in the left nostril in variations of alternate nostril breath. Casey? Donny? I will get back on this for you, I hope! Babs |

Hello pupun82
I'm wondering what it is that happened in the last year that began interfering with your studies. Was your concentration good prior to this? Do your studies interest you? Is there good energy behind them? When you lose concentration what do you more commonly do?-- struggle to continue, get up and do something else, get tired/fall asleep/nap?.... If you will, please give some details about what is happening.. In the meantime there are a few things I would suggest, and this is a bit generic, I suggest these things to everyone, but they all are helpful with concentration, and they are simple 1. make your study space as conducive (as favorable) to studying as possible. the space should be clean, and if possible, cleared from other attention grabbing things, even if this is just the space on top of the desk/table/floor/bed you are using. there should be good ventilation, if the weather is right and there is a window, open it a little or alot. your main study space should be used only for study and nothing else. 2. if your tendency is to lose concentration and go on to other projects, it is important to begin working your way through that initial tendency to get up and move away from your studies. the practice of trakak will help with this: you can familiarize yourself with trakak by reading this. if you have any questions, please ask
3. if your tendency is to lose sight of the energy behind your studies, it is important to re-energize. I like to do this with a breathing technique called plavini -- I have a not-so-great audio file you can listen to here, to familiarize yourself with this technique. be prepared to be uplifted! 4. if your tendency is related DIRECTLY to concentration, or is more of a combination of all that I have mentioned, then all of the above will help you, but what I would start with, or lay emphasis on (along with the rest), is samavritti. we can go into the details of why this is if you have questions. there is an audio file you can listen to here, to familiarize yourself with samavritti. * * If by chance you would like just one very simple practice that will help, I suggest a simple lengthening of the inhale/exhale. This WILL in turn lengthen your concentration. You can hear this in the samavritti recording. It is also written out here: just scroll down to where it says "Breathing Patterns" -- it will say "Simple Puraka/Rechaka". You might also like Om breathing---- listen |

I have found stretching before studying helps relax me which helps me study. I love the smell of a fresh clean room, So I completely clean the room as if I
were doing a spring cleaning. I love the smell of lemon so I use lemon pledge and pinesole where applicable. Then I buy three or four of my favorite type of
candles. Something about having it cleaned out helps clear my mind of the clutter (out with the old in with the new). Soft music usually helps me study too (I
hate being in a totally quiet room most of the time) But alot of people do better with quiet, so.... Don't ask what it is with the candles, I use
fragranced ones and for some reason they just help me stay focused better. I still use proper lighting though.

For concentration and in terms of practice, I suggest remembering that the purpose of concentration practice is to engage each sense with your attention, so
that your mind becomes fully absorbed in a natural way.
Concentration is your attentive mind fully absorbed in a specific thing, without the strain or effort that comes from attempting to block what you judge to be distractions. At first, purposely do pleasant things with individual senses. - Trakak for vision. - Eat something that you like, and be attentive to each sensation of taste and touch. Try to identify the individual ingredients that contribute to the flavor of the food. - Listen to a piece of music and try to follow an individual instrument in the band or orchestra. For instance, try to follow each note that the piano is playing, behind the singer's voice. - Do the same with your sense of smell, in a bakery or a garden. Of course, you can design your own practices by using experiences that are pleasant for you, that will engage your attention. To be completely absorbed in each sensory experience requires that you be fully present within the actual moment of experience. Once your body becomes familiar with what it feels like to be fully absorbed in the actual present moment, then this same engaged intelligence can be turned to studies. Also, when you are studying, only study for fifteen minutes at a time. Then step away from the studies for a few minutes. Stepping away places your attention elsewhere for a few minutes of change, which refreshes and relaxes. Then return to the studies for another fifteen minutes. Don't expect that you will be able to be fully engaged and absorbed in anything for long periods of time It's natural for your mind to want a break after about fifteen minutes of concentration, so taking a break is natural and comfortable. When taking a break, be attentive to relaxing your body with some deep breathing, stretching, and relax the muscles in your face.

well it a problem with all the kids in this age.
but dont worry, all u need is a daily routine/schedule. Plan ur studies. dont leave any subject untouched for any day. atleast 1 hr study to each subject will do the trick. well if u cant study at night try waking up early in the morning eg. 4:00 am or 5:00 am. Dont compromise with ur sleep. u need it as well as studies. 1 way in which u can study at night is just sleep for 1 hr. in the afternoon. i hope it will help u. if u drink coffee then drink it whenever u feel like sleeping. |
